When I decided to look carefully at my Pension Plan about three years before retirement I became worried that I had not received good advice for several years, and I feared that my advisor had sold pension plans but had never really dealt with anyone actually retiring.

Sufficiently alarmed I discussed this with a friend of mine who also acts as my Professional Advisor in financial matters.

He said that his father had recently retired and had received good pension advice through Martin Andrews, and he passed on Martin’s contact details.

I contacted Martin and one of his first comments was to say that the death benefits before retirement on my policy was to return contributions paid, not the value of the fund. The fund value had grown 8 times, and so if I died before drawing my pension benefits, my wife would only receive a fraction of the value of my pension fund.

So after listening to him on what he has done and his views on financial life in general I decided the next day to move my pension fund to come under his advice!

I immediately then converted my pension to a plan which pays out the full value of the fund on death before retirement, and at the same time worked out the best way of drawing my pension benefits in a very tax efficient manner.

We have a very close relationship with most of our clients and they ring us about a wide variety of issues. If we don't know the answer we will usually know someone who does and this means that we regularly recommend other professionals.
